The Founding of A2G
A2G was originally formed when Mary Wayman, company Founder and Executive Officer, grew frustrated while trying to assist her son through the college selection process. At the beginning of his Freshman year, Mary contacted her son’s school counselor for assistance with the college application process. Much to her surprise, she learned that the school counselor’s involvement was minimal at best. For the more than 400 seniors there were fewer than 5 school counselors available.
Mary was amazed and overwhelmed by all the information parents and students are required to search for and manage. Like many parents, she had limited knowledge of the volume of information most colleges and university applications require: transcripts, self-authored essays, letters of recommendation, financial aid forms, and scholarship information. During her research to assist her son, Mary discovered a key fact unknown by many parents and students: Despite all the work necessary to enter college, only 50% of students leave college with a degree. She also discovered another statistic: Of the 50% of students that receive a college degree, 80% will need at least 6 years to graduate!
Mary soon realized that her family would be making the second largest financial investment ever. With college prices looming close to $100,000, it became even more important to be sure that her son graduated within four years. If her son took six years to graduate, it could cost her family an additional $50,000.
Mary recognized that too many students and parents remained unaware of the realities of the college application process, costs and graduation rates. Application 2 Graduation, LLC was formed to offer services to parents, students and institutions that invest in higher education.
